Reader Submission - Black Bean Burgers

I received an email today from a loyal reader, we will refer to her as Ms. M, and she provided me with this picture of the black bean burgers she made. The burgers themselves look fantastic and I can tell you cooked them perfectly due to their color. The biggest mistake when cooking these black bean burgers is undercooking them. So cheers to you, Ms. M, for not fucking them up. Now, I do take some reservation with the garnishing. Are those lemon slices on your burger bun? What the hell is that thinly sliced stuff on the side? Is that the smallest bun you could find? That thing would fit a 3lb burger. Sorry, I just can't help myself. It does look great though Ms. M, and I am glad my recipe worked out for you. Kudos.

Those were indeed lemon slices, I always add them up with burgers. The thin white things on the side are cucumber slices. Cucumbers in my region are always ghost-white, I wonder why. And oh yeah! Those are the smallest bun I could find. It's the regular size. I guest you find all the weird stuff in my region. Notice how the lemons look small?
Thanks for posting those recipes, since I'm almost vegetarian, it's a caveful of resources. You rule!

Where do you hail from?
So you eat the rind of the lemons?
Cucumbers sound good! They are probably white because they are not pumped full of chemicals.

Hailing from an island in the Indian Ocean, Mauritius. It's an awesome place to live in if you are the nature-loving kind, which I am.
Yeah I eat the lemon rinds raw, provided they are super thin though.

Sweet! That sounds really cool and makes Oregon sound boring.

I'll have to try that. Makes sense.

It actually makes Oregon look normal.

Thinly sliced lemon rinds on just about anything I use lemon on is delicious. We have a local sushi place here that does a couple of rolls with fresh lemon shaved on top and I was skeptical at first but I can't get enough. Those burgers look incredible!

I have used lemon rind in many dishes but I never thought of using it as an edible garnish. I will have to try that sometime.

I used to dump lemon juice in my kool aid as a kid and it would make my tongue go numb.

That is fucking hilarious!

Leave it to Mr. C to become one with the subjects he photographs... he 'says' they're just his subjects... but we know better... (insert evil laugh here)

By "as a kid", he means last night.
