Grilled Cedar Plank Steelhead

For all you idiots who have no fucking clue what a steelhead is, it is a rainbow trout that spends a large portion of its life in the Pacific Ocean. It is red like salmon but has its own unique flavor. My woman scored a huge fillet from a co-worker who's son caught this bitch. Steelhead is the fucking bomb and its natural flavor should not be masked by over-zealous seasoning. Let's begin:
What a gorgeous specimen. I almost just want to eat it raw! Brush down with melted butter and sprinkle on some salt and pepper. Soak a cedar plank in water so it doesn't it doesn't catch on fire and ruin your beautiful steak.
Place the plank directly onto the coals. Cover and let that bitch cook for about 20 min or so. I think. I don't really remember as I wasn't paying attention to the time. I am just that good that I eyeball everything. You, on the other hand, need a timer to cook burgers, loser.
And there you have it: perfectly cooked, delicious steelhead. Eat it

I've never had steelhead... that looks incredible! We're coming to Portland and Seattle at the end of September... I'll have to keep my eye out for it at the market.

Very tasty looking! I never steelhead! What would you recommend eating it with? Salad? Rice? I know, I know, you prob say use your brains and stuff, BUT! there can be certain dishes to accompany fish that brings out the flavor right?! Or would you suggest just the fish as it is...plain directly from the board...sounds good to me as well hehe

@Auri
Yes you should! If you have time we should grab a drink!

@PM
Maybe one day it will clear up.

@TJ
I had it with roasted asparagus and brown rice. Steelhead needs no condiment.

@AR
I have never tried that!

@TPT
I know.

@Girl
Get used to it. We are in the middle of a heatwave here in Portland so I have only been cooking outside.

Only hatchery steelhead should be eaten. Wild steelhead are an endangered species and should be released when caught. The Wild Steelhead Coalition has asked seafood watch to add wild steelhead to its list of seafood to avoid eating entirely.

I agree, best way to cook Salmon (and I guess Steelhead) is with minimal seasonings, and stop cooking it the second white fat(?) snot appears over the thicker parts.

Your fillet looks fantastic! Too bad you didn't have the whole fish to cook. Fillet's are so wasteful.

Sounds like someone landed themselves a nice steelhead today and was searching google to find out how to cook it!

Ok Moldy Chum, i dont know where you ever thought of that, but up here in Canada Steelhead are in every province and are in healthy numbers even in Lake Erie. These are stocked fish in lake erie BUT they spawn in northern streams up in Lake Ontario or Niagra, either then that everything is wild

Why would I take cooking advice from someone with the vocabulary of a 12 year old? Grow up you twat.

I hope that comment was in jest because otherwise the irony would be too sickening for me to ingest.

I have incredible respect for your writing style - you are the next literary genius - I hope you push for a cooking show on HBO, or that the FCC has a shit taken on their own head, eats it, and dies. God speed. Oh, and this cooking guide works wonderfully - I highly recommend it to all. Tummy
