Equinox Restaurant and Bar

For weekend breakfast my lady and I usually go to Gravy on Mississippi like everyone else in the fucking world but this weekend we were running a little behind schedule. If you do not get to Gravy before 9:30am you will be waiting for at least an hour. There is a spot next door to Gravy, called Mississippi Station, but do not go here. You will get burned. Instead, play it smart and walk around the corner to Equinox Restaurant and Bar. This place is in the same price range as the aforementioned establishments and much classier. The portions are smaller but still fill you up without a problem. Let's check it out:
This is the view from the sidewalk. They have a huge outdoor seating area (as seen above) which is jam packed during the summer months but in the winter people seem to forget this place exists. While about 40 people wait outside Gravy we walk right in and easily grab a table.
This place is not too big but I love the open feeling. You can see into the kitchen on one side and into the bar on the other. Take note of the hipster doofus with the stupid glasses. Welcome to Portland. In any case, the use of space works really well and it is making me hungry!
This is the smoked salmon hash (with red onion and roasted red pepper) with two poached eggs and hollandaise ($10). Fucking killer. I didn't have three pounds leftover to take home with me, like at Gravy, but I also didn't have to stand in the rain for an hour like a fucking idiot. Patronize it.

Glad to see you mention this place. We walk right by Gravy and go to Equinox. Good food, nice presentation, and the tables aren't lined up like cattle stalls.

Also, we have heard a Cup & Saucer is going into Tupelo Alley. I like their granola.

Gravy totally lacks in the ambiance category but their food is pretty killer.

I can't stand Cup & Saucer (but I have never had the granola). Their quiche pisses me off and their sandwiches are lackluster at best. Zero presentation or ambiance(at least the one on N. Denver...I am not too sure but I think the one on Killingsworth is pretty dope). I actually have pictures from a trip to C&S that I have yet to post.

Dude, get your chunky ass over to the Fubon shopping center on SE 82nd (between Powell and Division) and review Malay Satay Hut- Mrs. Spyder and I went there for lunch.

$24 fucking dollars, we ate well for two from the Dim Sum carts, plus we brought a quart of ginger sauce home- I shot off in my pants when I sampled that shit on a pot sticker.

You patronize it , asshole! Take your critter and your wife! Order the malaysian style sticky rice, and don't miss the potstickers. Damn. Shit. Email me, we'll all meet there.

I want to knock that hipster right off that chair. You should do that next time.

That Fubon shopping center freaks me out. Not to mention it is also on 82nd which is officially the worst street in America. But I will try and make it over sometime.

He actually slid off the chair a few times because his jeans were too tight.

If his jeans were so tight he fell off his stool, you should have run over and kicked his hipster ass a couple time for him.

I totally should have!

I know you live in Portland starbird/spyderinflames! Are you going to come to the benefit dinner?!?

I want to, but I can't do anything on Saturdays. I don't get off work till 8 pm, dammit.

Otherwise, you wouldn't be able to keep me away.

I think, though, that I'm gonna donate a couple of gift cards, either from walgreens or rite aid pharmacies.

Thanks for sharing, first time I hear about this place but will definitely will check it out one of these Fridays, that's when me and my wife go for breakfast since the little house monsters are in school.
